We had a good long run...

It's been a few years since we've had any health crises. Actually, I believe the last time either of our children had surgery was about a year and a half ago when Austin had bread removed from his ear (see blog post HERE). It was also about that time that Austin finished up physical therapy following his tethered cord release spinal surgery.

I've enjoyed this break from health drama, but it seems that we are entering another season of doctor appointments and therapy sessions. Yet again, Austin is the one having surgery. This time, he's having his tonsils and adenoids removed, which should cure his sleep apnea issues.

This time, David is the one having therapy- speech therapy, that is. The good thing is that his therapist makes house calls, as opposed to when Austin had physical therapy at Kosair Children's Hospital once a week.

Austin's surgery (called a T&A) is scheduled for Friday, April 27. It's an outpatient procedure, but there is a two week recovery period when he will be on a soft diet and limited activity. The doctor said he will need to stay home from school the first week following surgery. It's going to be a rough recovery, but we are hopeful the long-term benefit will outweigh the short-term discomfort.

I'll be sure to fill you in on how everything goes with surgery and also how our week of "home school" recovery turns out.

On a side note, Austin only has two months left of Kindergarten!

Help! My house is a mess. Where do I start?

Some people like to clean. Other people don't even seem to notice a messy house.

Then there's the rest of us- We like things to be tidy and neat, but we don't really enjoy housework. Add two boys to the mix (make that three if you count the hubby) and cleaning becomes this insurmountable task that never seems to get finished.

With that in mind, to make it worse, I felt like I was moving in slow motion this morning and just couldn't get going. It was probably due to the Excedrin PM that I took for a headache last night. I always feel hungover when I take any kind of medicine.

Anyway, I decided to walk Austin to school this morning since it was already 50 degrees and sunny outside. It was refreshing to get outside and walk (almost 2 miles round-trip), but when I got back I felt even more lethargic than before. And my house was a mess.

Well, Elisabeth Elliot always says to just "do the next thing" when you don't know what to do so I turned on some music, picked a corner of my living room (the least messy one :) and systematically worked my way around the room picking up toys, books, dishes and clothes as I went. Then before David had a chance to drag toys all over again, I did a quick vacuum and even felt motivated to wipe down the baseboards (for the first time since we moved here a year ago- eek). Now that my floors are clean, I'm starting to feel a little more energy.

Time to tackle the kitchen.

Pictures to Remember

The other day, I made it a point to take more pictures of the boys, well of David especially. I used to take so many more pictures when Austin was a toddler. I guess it was so new back then that I wanted to capture it all with film. These days I tend to just soak these moments up instead of running for the camera. However, I was in the picture taking mood last week, so enjoy!
David playing with his toy animals. He's growing such an imagination.

David's love for books has grown so much lately! He especially likes to look for "beep beeps."

Looking at more books.

At the eye doctor- Austin needs glasses- Will post pictures when we get his frames back.
