While the kids are away, Mommy will...

So, my boys have been gone for four days. What have I been doing with all my free time, you say?

Make Homeschool Plans

This Fall will be our first year homeschooling. Austin will be in second grade. I've finally finished researching and ordering curriculum and books. It's a good feeling to have everything planned out. Now, once I recover from having Logan, we can jump right into things.

Work around the House

It's a wonderful thing to clean up a room and to see it stay clean for more than a few minutes. This is something I must have taken for granted before having kids. I've done some work in our unfinished basement, and I started sorting toys. Joseph is currently paining the boys' bedroom. I have to admit that part of my motivation for cleaning and such is to put myself into labor so I can have this baby already!

Count contractions

I've gotten Braxton Hicks contractions with all my pregnancies. This time it started around 19 weeks gestation. Up until a week ago, I was only getting them randomly throughout the day- no more than once an hour.

This past week (37 weeks), I've been getting contractions more often, more regularly and more intensely. I've even gone into triage at the hospital twice because they were coming so quickly. Both times, I was sent home because they weren't true labor contractions. My c-section is scheduled for June 26th. I suppose I may just have to deal with these pesky contractions for another week and a half. We will see. Either way, I think Logan is going to be a good sized baby. A week ago, he measured over seven pounds on ultrasound

Have Fun

Joseph and I went to see a movie at the theater last night. We've taken a few walks. Some friends have come over to visit me, and I've done a little solo shopping.

By the way, the boys are having a wonderful time in Tennessee. They even went fishing with my dad and each caught their own little fish.

A little peace and quiet while I wait... Less than two weeks till Baby #3 arrives

The boys are on their way to TN for a few weeks, and I'm enjoying a little holiday while I wait for Logan to arrive. I have a scheduled c-section in two weeks. I went into labor around this point in my pregnancy with David, so we'll see if I make it all the way to 39 weeks. Otherwise, I intend to enjoy my vacation while it lasts. Number one on my list is to sort the boys' toys. This is nearly impossible to do when they are home, so this is a good opportunity to do a little organizing/purging.
Full-term 37 weeks and 1 day

Did I mention that we bought a house? Joseph has been quite the handyman fixing up our new home. The kitchen and office/nursery are completely finished. It feels good to have paint on the walls and new rugs on the floors. I think the boys' room is going to be Joseph's next project. It's a blessing to have a place of our own. Apartment living with boys was very stressful, not to mention a bit cramped. No more crazy neighbor ladies, either!

The boys have an awesome sidewalk to ride bikes in front of our house.

We are getting all geared up to homeschool Austin next year. I'm going to use A Beka for mathematics, Sonlight for history and language arts, and A Reason for Handwriting. Science is really the only area that I don't have planned, but our library has several rows of excellent science books that I think will be a good starting place.

It's crazy to think that we are going to be a family of five very soon. Believe it or not, we have figured out a way to fit the three kids in the backseat of our small Honda Civic. Seatbelt extenders (purchased from Amazon for $15 each) and small backless boosters (Harmony for David and a Cosco for Austin) are the trick, along with using the infant carrier without the snap-in base. It may be a little crowded, but it sure beats buying a new vehicle right away.

Three wide in a Honda Civic.
In other news, I am no longer a part-time working mom. My last day at the law office was last Tuesday.  I've been a legal secretary there for five years. When we found out I was pregnant with Logan, we decided that it made the most sense for me to stay home full-time. I couldn't be more thrilled. Being home full-time is also what makes homeschooling a more reasonable option for our family.

Lots of new changes in our life this summer- new house, new baby, stopped working, and homeschooling for the first time. It's crazy how these major life events have all come at once!
