We like our new church in Frankfort. Joseph is settling into his role as Associate Pastor with an emphasis in Children's Ministries, and the boys and I are finding our place as well. Austin is learning so much, and Joseph and I are getting a lot of experience at teaching some of these classes.
Joseph teaches the 10-11 year old Sunday School class which includes the pastor's two oldest children. They are both believers and very informed theologically. I've been sitting in on the class and have been very encouraged by the excitement that these two young people have about spiritual things. We are currently working through the book of Galations.
On Sunday mornings, kids ages 3-6 leave the service during the offering time and participate in Children's Church, where they are taught some catechism questions, have a light snack, listen to a Bible story and have some sort of craft or activity. There is a monthly rotation for Children's Church workers, and Joseph and I are part of the rotation.
On Sunday afternoons, we usually go out to lunch and then rest at the pastor's house or another church member's home. Joseph sometimes has a meeting before the evening service or he makes a hospital visit with Pastor Steve. We get along great with the Weaver family. Gretta and I have had many hours to chat and visit, and she is a wonderful model of a biblical pastor's wife. "Those Weavers" (as Austin calls them) are pretty fun. There are six kids ranging in ages from 6 weeks to 11 years old. Austin especially enjoys playing with Jonathan (5) and Isaac (7). They have all kinds of batman toys, which would account for Austin's new fascination with batman. Up until this point, he was pretty much a Marvel kid like Joseph.
On Sunday evenings, we have a program called Praise Factory, which was originally developed by Mark Dever's wife, Connie Dever. Joseph gathers all the kids together at the beginning and talks to them about the "big idea" which is some aspect of systematic theology. For the past three weeks, the big idea was "God Treated the First Sinners with Justice and Mercy." Then the big kids listen to a story and the little kids learn about missions. Then, both groups come back together for a snack and a memory verse game or music time. I've been working with another older lady to teach the kids a hymn once a month. This past time, they learned the first verse of We Have Heard the Joyful Sound. Praise Factory is a pretty neat program for the kids. Austin is learning a lot.
The congregation at Farmdale is very kind. There are several couples in their 30s, but a great number of the members are our parents' age or older. The church we came from was primarily made up of twenty-something seminary couples and members aged 80 and above. There weren't many people inbetween. It's encouraging to be around Christians who are in their 40s and 50s, who are still young enough to be active in church, yet wise enough to be the "older Christians" talked about in the Bible.

Our New Apartment
We had the opportunity to move to a bigger apartment last weekend, and we are loving it!
These are just a few pictures so you can see what it looks like. Hopefully I will post more once we start hanging pictures on the walls. The living/dining room is painted “Mellow Yellow.” (which happens to be Joseph’s favorite soft drink.) His office is a blue gray color. Our bedroom is light brown (sorry, not picture worthy yet).
The boys room is decorated in a batman theme, which is really cool for the boys. Austin also got a new twin sized bed. We took down the crib, and David is sleeping in the playpen for a few months until he is ready to move into the toddler bed.
Some perks to the new place- Rent+utilities should be comparable to our old place; We only moved one building over, so our address is the same except for the apartment number; we have the same apartment management/owners so they just transferred our old deposit; Austin is still close to his neighbor friends; we are still in the same public school cluster (no news yet as to where he has been assigned, but the move shouldn’t affect his placement);
Did I mention we painted the walls? It’s amazing how happier I feel having color on the walls. I have a full sized washer dryer in a separate laundry room instead of a half sized portable washer/dryer unit; We have a bigger linen closet and a coat closet, which we never had before; Joseph now has his own office, so my living room walls are no longer lined with shelves. Correction, Joseph now has his own “game room,” so our closets are no longer crowded with video games and equipment
. We have like-new carpet; our bathroom sink has more counter space; more cabinet space in the kitchen; a scenic view of the “woods” out our windows (quite a luxury in the city, mind you); We have a long hallway, which will serve well as a drag racing strip for the boys (and maybe it will keep them out of my kitchen, which has only one doorway now- our old apartment had two entrances to the kitchen, so the boys were constantly running through.)
In summary, we moved to a new apartment. We like it better. Life is good.
